View Full Version : Renault Central Locking?

So the central locking doesn't work in my megane scenic and I wanted to have a go at fixing it before I let reanult charge me £100's to fix it.

The car doesn't seem to have an alarm as there's no flashing LED on the roof console which the haynes manual seems to indicate all the alarmed ones have.

It does have an imoblizer as there's a red flashing LED at the top of the instrument cluster.

When the central locking button is pressed on the central console, all the doors and boot lock and unlock ok which means the motors/vacums etc all work ok.

Which I guess just leaves either the keys (it came with 2) or the reciever.

The keys don't have a small dome on the which I think all the non-transponder infrared ones have (which can apparently be checked using a digital camera?). If you hold the button in on the key, a red LED flash quite fast and if you hold it down for about 10 seconds the LED goes out and then when you release the button it stays on. I tried holding it down till it goes out and then pressing the button 2 and 3 times (which some forums seemed to suggest re-syncs them?) and nothing happens. Its the same with both keys.

The reciever looks ok but I've not had it off yet to see what it's like inside, I've heard they can get damaged from a leaking sunroof but I can't see any water stains etc around the sunroof indicating that it's leaked in the past.

Does anyone have any experience with these and suggest where I might be going wrong or if there's anything else I can check/do before having to pay renault loads to fix it?

Thanks!

Davey

Its probable that the keyfobs need re-registering to the car, have a look here for information:

Thanks Davey, I'll give that a go tonight and see if it works. Interestingly on that sight it also says a common fault with the ecu is it looses the code for the keys and renault's fix is to replace the ecu :(

I had this exact same problem with a megane cabriolet (the wife wanted it!)

The range went down hill then all of a sudden, typically when i was in France it packed up all together. Cost me over a hundred pound to get fixed. Then that broke sometime latter, the wife threw it in an argument, another story for antoher day :rolleyes:

Anyway when i looked deeper into this, on my megane there was a red Led in the cluster like yours. i then found a program that takes the serial off your key PCB and generates a code you enter through the central locking button inside the car, this deactivates the imobolizer. I shall try and find a link for you. We used this for months, but the pain is the central locking never works again.

Or my friend had this problem on a Peugeot 306 and all the imobolizer was doing is killing the fuel pump, so he took a fresh 12v feed to it and worked it off a toggle switch when he wanted to fire her up. A bit stoneage, i think he could have driven it off a relay piggy backed off the starter or something?? prob again car works with no central locking!?!?

Ill look into the computer program in the meantime

Cheers Will

Yes if you look at the transmitter through a didigtal camera you can see if its working or not.

Get the code calculator here, password is: Trantir

This is completely legal and will only work if you have the key to the car.

and follow this instruction.

Turn the ignition on, this means dash lights all on and the immobilizer light is flashing quickly.

We shall assume you have a code of 1234

press and hold the central locking button, the flashing will stop then the light will flash again.

Hold it until it flashes once

let go

press again until it flashes twice

let go

press again for 3 flashes

let go

then finally press for 4 flashes

the code is now entered

after you put the last digit in the light will come on then go off for about a second then come back on, this time it will stay on for 30 seconds.

You can now start the car.

If you wish to re-synch the plip enter the code.

When you put the final digit in the light goes out comes back on and back off again (i.e. the 30 second interval) press and hold the central locking button again and the doors should lock and unlock, remove the key and plip away at the sensor, in about 3 tries the doors should lock and unlock again.

The key should now be re-programmed and work as it should.

Cheers for the help guys this is all good stuff I'll try later. I guess where I get confused is the imobilizer on the car still works fine with the key as I can start the car no problem and the flashing light on the cluster goes out and stays off when the ignition is switched to on (car not started) so I'm not having to enter a code manually to start & drive the car. I'm just having to manually lock all the doors which is a bit annoying and I'm worried I'll forget to check it one day and leave it open! I'm also unsure if mine is an "old" or "new" style as it doesn't have the dome thing on the key, just an led which goes off if you hold the button down for awhile.

I tried this:
MEGANE RF RESYNCHRONISING
Hold the remote control button down for longer than 10 seconds (until the red telltale
light on the key extinguishes) then press it again 3 times.
Check that the doors lock and unlock correctly.

last night with no luck so i'll give
